What is eating my avocado leaves?

Please see attached picture. What is eating the avocado leaf I am holding? What can I buy to prevent this pest? Thanks.

Your leaf looks chewed not sucked, mu guess is snails/slugs. Al

Yeah, slugs or snails, or maybe katydids. I never thought of katydids until I saw one eating my citrus leaves when I came home late one night. They're a relative of a grasshopper and love tree leaves and eat late at night, so most people don't ever see them. They can eat quite a lot in one night.

Bonide's "Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew" works well on chewing insects and is registered for organic gardening.

Thanks. I saw the katydid on there! I thought it was a grasshopper. I'll look for this captain jack's bug brew too.

That is a brand name for Spinosad.

If you go out about an hour after sunset with a flashlight and a scissors you can just cut the heads off the katydids. One individual can do a lot of damage so if you get a few you've pretty much solved the problem.
