Evergreen trees in a planter box

Hello,
I want to plant a couple of evergreen trees in a 3x3 or 4x4 wood planter box on either side of my pond. Ideally I want them to grow 10feet in height with thick growth. When I built my pond I forgot to consider the heavy amount of sun and now I have a beautiful pond with lots of sun. I can not put anothing under the soil as I have a storm drain that is running on the side of the pond that is 3 or 4 feet deep.

Unfortunately, I have no option to plant in ground and I really need a shade by means of a tree grown in pot. I can make the pot any size using wood to accomodate a nice lush evergreen tree. This area where the planter box will be placed gets sun from sunrise and solid 4+ hours of sun.
What trees similar to what I described will grow well in a planter box in northern Marin county? Also, what dimensions would the planter boxes need to be?
Thanks.
