Can i plant water melon still?

Hi there, I live in Lancaster CA(in the desert) and i was hoping i could still plant watermelon and cantaloupe and still have a decent sized fruit at the end of my growing season..well i already planted them today(sugarbaby & crimson sweet)but if they wont produce in time i am going to dig them up and plant something else..also what is your opinion on winter squash and pumpkins..will they produce in time, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

You get a lot of heat out in Lancaster so stuff grows pretty fast (if sufficiently watered!) so why not try? Pumpkin I have planted as late as July 4th and gotten pumpkins for Halloween and Thanksgiving, but with far less yield, which is fine because who needs a gazillion pumpkins? Keep everything watered, because the hot hot hot weather is here and small seedlings are vulnerable.
