Is a CA-Specific Seed Source available?

Hawaii has a Source (university extension ?) for seeds proven adaptable to grow in that specific climate, which could be purchased. Is there such available for Southern California gardeners? (Possibly at UCSD or SDSU?)

Do you need just Cal. native seeds?

I don't think I have ever hear of our California colleges or Hort. extension services specifcally selling seeds.

Here is a link that might be useful: Theodore Payne web site

Thanks for reply.

I'm specifically looking for (right now) :

WHAT Bush Shelling Peas will grow best in a hanging pot
that only has our coastal afternoon sun--and soonest month
to plant it here in Point Loma area.

Those Hawaii-specific seeds had better results than the mainland commercial ones--due to different (lava-type) soil conditions I guess. Many seeds were non-native--just tried & tested for good growth there. Probably no need for something like that here.

Universities and colleges in California are not in the seed business. The UC Cooperative Extension service, however, does make recommendations for best vegetable varieties for given locations throughout California. You may want to locate their offices in San Diego County.
