Nice garden, hosenemesis!; 'Southern Patriot' sure is an attention grabber. What are the light spikes located below the birdbath in your photo? They almost looks like lamb's ears spikes, but I can almost make out individual flowers, so think it must be something else.

Our daylilies are out of control this year. They have been in the ground several years and have grown to large clumps. Am I correct that they need to be dug up and divided, in the fall? Is that what you do, Renee, every few years with the daylilies?

Socks, I am pretty new to daylilies and don't know what to do with them. I don't think they need to be divided- as long as they keep blooming, I'm going to leave them.

GyrFalcon, the white spikes are Giant Imperial Larkspur. I grow them from seed.

I just had to say that your garden is to die for! I'm a novice gardener still struggling with how to select plants, how to improve soil, how to water correctly, etc.. and can only hope that my garden looks even half as good one day! Gorgeous!

Kathi, that is lychnis coronaria- crown pink. An aggressive reseeder, but it has such lovely soft gray foliage and a profusion of magenta flowers. I deadheaded thirty blooms in one day on that plant! So if you are worried about reseeding deadheading is not a great option.

Gyrfalcon, I think you can grow larkspur pretty easily if you sow the seeds in fall. They bloom before the weather gets unbearable. Mine are blooming late- they are just about done now, because I didn't plant them until January.
