Star Thistle- grrrrr

I spent the early morning up our back hill, pulling out star thistle. This is the first year it has showed up on the hill and I know how it got there! Some of our neighbors just let it grow all around the edges of their properties - too lazy to do the cutting necessary. We have thought we had eradicated all of it from our place.

It can kill horses!

Shouldn't there be a LAW!?

Yellow star thistle has been a problem for hay producers for all of my life and I am 82. Farmers here in the Napa Valley, once a producer of Oat hay on hundreds of acres, claimed the seed was carried from Lake county via the running boards of cars and trucks. I can remember as a child when kids would ride on the back of the farm trucks, their bare feet hanging over the side, when the star thistle would hit the feet, feet were quickly withdrawn. I know of no quick method of eliminating it, just constant vigilance and removal before bloom. Al

I had some kind of thistle..then,tiny finches would show up and eat the seeds. Now that you remind me-no more thistles.
