Is it OK to prune sun-crisped plants?

Debbie

I live in Walnut Creek and it's been in the 90s the last couple of days, after a very cool, rainy spring. A few of the newly planted berberis in my yard are looking really crispy right now--I forgot to extend the drip emitters to them in time for this heat spell. I watered them as soon as I saw the damage and they look a lot better than they did earlier today.

Is it OK/advisable to prune out the dried-out branches or should I just leave them? If it helps, the plants are crimson pygmy berberis. I have several other berberis plants in my yard (old and newly planted) and they are all doing fine--just two of the new plants look bad.

Thanks.
