how to get rid of tree root suckers

Hello,

I live in northern CA in the foothills at about 2500 ft (Magalia specifically). Our neighbors have a tree-- maybe an ash, I'm not really sure-- that is sending up a ton of root suckers in our yard next to my compost bin. It's a literal forest out there. Is there any way I can get rid of them? They are taking over our yard.

I use a product by Monterey called sucker stopper. Nursery told me it will never sucker in that same spot again.
