Please remind me of the bloom cycle of Bougainvillea

Hi Everyone:

I have been growing a San Diego Red Bougainvillea on my deck for a few years. A month or so ago it had a beautiful flush of red bracts and foliage but after the bracts lost their bloom and dropped, it has been sitting almost bare with few bracts and very little foliage--can someone clarify if this is normal.

Yes, especially if we've had a hot spell (or a cold snap). Mine are starting to re-bloom, again. Some varieties tend to cycle more severely than others, while others seem to keep a larger number of blooms between flushes. And I have some bougies that are nearly completely deciduous, dropping all their leaves during the winter.
