Red Russian Kale is the ultimate winter crop. It does fine in very hard freezes. Plant in August to give the roots a chance to establish.

Garlic is good but it takes up a lot of space for a little fist-sized garlic which you can buy for 50 cents at the market. You could put in a few, though. I plant the cloves from the garlic I get at the store.

Fruithack, where do you get russian kale starters, or is it seeds? Do the slugs like it?
