CrApe. There is some dispute on the spelling with most of the horticultural references including Michael Dirr spelling it with an 'A'. Southern Living and in Australia they spell it with an 'E'. There is support for both sides of the argument.

I prefer CrApe.

Obsessed? That depends, how big is your property? Smaller than about 10,000ft^2? You might have issues :-)

As far as the the old Crepe vs Crape. Crape is the accepted spelling, but they were named for the crinkled appearance of the petals which resemble the crinkled edge of the French pastry so Crepe is probably technically correct.

However, in Arizona they spell Mojave with an H and you'd better not pronounce Amarillo like am-a-ree-oh in Texas unless you actually mean to say the Spanish word for Yellow.

In other words, the accepted spelling or pronunciation eventually becomes more correct than the correct spelling.
