Trouble with matilija poppy/ Romneya

I planted a 1 gallon matilija poppy (Romneya) almost 3 weeks ago. The sea-green leaves have turned yellow from the bottom up. The stems remain green, so I am wondering what I can do to save it. I may have overwatered it because of high temps last week. What do you think?

That depends on your soil. Romneya does best on a really fast draining soil, like sand. If the roots stay wet for any length of time it won't make it. Al

I think that's it! The soil drains very, very slowly. I will move it tomorrow if I can find a better/sandier spot. Thank you!
