I believe it's a fig beetle. I find them in my yard too.

I always thought it was strange that these were called Fig Beetles because I've never seen them touch any of my Figs. They would go after apricots, peaches, and nectarines. I finally gave up on those and decided to concentrate on citrus and avocados.

The one huge fig that remains needs to go, which is going to be fun as it has branches that weigh hundreds of pounds each.

They were all three on this one piece of fruit so I left them there thinking that they would stay off the other fruit on the tree.

I sure am glad I didn't have any of these on my fruit trees! Seeing the damage would break my heart. Are they large enought for ou to pick off?

Fig beetles are usually attracted by overripe or damaged fruit (they usually stick to windfall, but if they find a fruit on the tree that's been damaged by a bird or other insects it's fair game). However, if you have a lot of windfall, they will be attracted in large quantities and if enough of them start scratching at the skin of undamaged fruit, they can get a toehold.

Westelle yes they are large,but there is no way in He** that I am going to pick them off,i hate beetles!! They have left us a lot of fruit,so I just work around them when picking.I'd probably have a heart attack if one of them came to close to me.

The nectarines though are delicious.

Ryan by windfall,do you mean the fruit that fell on the ground?? Never heard that term used concerning fruit,only Money.
