Where can I get roses this time of year?

I need Cl. Iceberg, Cl. Eden, Bonica, Cl. Renae, and some standard roses.

Where can I get them this time of the year? A few local nurseries I called up are out of them.

I am in Los Angeles, near Santa Monica.

I'd prefer to get a big 5 gal from a local nursery, but I'll mail order them if I can't find them near by.

thanks!

I'm hesitant to post this because the GardenWeb people frown on "commercial advertising" and this looks kinda like that. Especially if they detect the name of a company that has spammed this site. Some of these are retailers, some are mail-order, some are both. You really don't want to buy container plants now, though, and have them "shipped" -- the shipping cost is greater than the cost of the actual rose.

Some nurseries are having sales on container roses at this time of the year. Do not expect a large selection to be on sale, but if they happen to have what you want it is a good deal. Petaluma Rose Company had a sale a couple of years ago and I got good roses. Try and get listed on their web site as they will advertise sales to those listed on their email list. This is not the best time of year to be planting roses, but when they are in the hot sun in five gallon nursery pots, planting them in the ground is actually an improvement. Al

You can try Otto and Sons in Fillmore. I know they carry cl Renae, cl Iceberg, and cl Eden in two sizes.

I've seen the climbing iceberg at the Armstrong chain down my way this time of year. There's one in Santa Monica on Wilshire.

This isn't really a good time to plant roses, or much of anything. Too hot and dry. The best time to plant roses here is bareroot in January, or else potted in the early spring.

It's a little bit of a drive for you but I was just at Green Arrow Nursery in North Hills (8845 Sepulveda Blvd.) and they had a large selection of roses in 5 gallon pots. I'm guessing about 100 of them or more. They also have a store in Van Nuys but I don't know how large it is. The North Hills one was huge compared to the Santa Clarita one.

Sorry I didn't get a price since I was there for a cherry tree and they had my Rainier I have been looking for.
