evergreen rodgersia???

I know rodgersia are not evergreen but I'm looking for a dramatic plant like it that is evergreen. Mostly shade, similar size, doesn't matter if it hydrangeas or rhododendrons and I have plenty of ferns....something a bit more unusual. I live in Sacramento, Any ideas?

RE: evergreen rodgersia???

what about a Japanese maple? Perhaps the dissectum weeping variety? I'm not sure if they are all deciduous or whether some are evergreen, but they sure are pretty.
