Flower ID/Name that plant!

Posted by tinan (My Page) on

Can anyone tell me what flower this is - the red flowers? I like it for a front landscape area and I see it growing by the roadside but I don't know what it is.

Thanks!

Gee, it looks like roses to me. But my eyes are going.

I second roses. A zoomed in image would be useful.

Sorry my cell phone doesn't zoom and my "regular" camera broke recently. I will try to get a better photo when I drive by there next. The flowers are much smaller than I would expect for roses, and I didn't see thorns.

I just realized that someone else on my street has the same flowers in front of their fence... here is a better photo!

And yes it does look like there are thorns and most likely it is some kind of rose - what kind?

I think they are Knockout roses. There are a number of landscape roses that bloom for long periods, do not need to be dead-headed, and stay low and small. Flower Carpet, KnockOuts, and a few others that escape me right now. Bonica is a beautiful pink that is used in landscaping.
