| While visiting Santa Fe last month, we stayed at a motel with an outdoor patio in which every table had a small pot with a small Portulaca plant. I have admired this plant in pictures but this was my first experience up-close. I'd like to plant it in a pot on our patio.
I'm wondering how YOU grow it --- with what companions (if any), how much sun --- and if it ever lives over or if it is a true annual. |

| It's a true annual in the northern US. I don't know about California. Give it around 70 degrees F to germinate. Seedlings can be transplanted. The more sun, the better it will bloom. If it's growing in a sandy soil, it may reseed. The flowers are very bright like cactus flowers. |

| It's an annual for me. I buy it in pony packs to get the color I want, then it reseeds. Renee |
