Okay, I finally figured out what this was. Romanesco Broccoli! I don't see why you couldn't start this now, it's a cool season veggie. You don't have your Sunset zone listed, but I'm thinking you're near the coast? I would definitely try this. Did you find this in pots or are you starting by seed? I'd like to try some, actually. Love both broccoli and cauliflower, and it is so gorgeous. Wonder if you could cook the entire head at once, maybe steaming? It would so attractive as it's own dish.
