Has anyone grown Quaking Aspen in the Valley?

Hi, I'm gardening in Fresno, and am considering planting a quaking aspen in my backyard. I love the look of the tree. I've seen it growing in it's natural range in the eastern Sierra, but have read that it can be grown in drier regions as long as the root zone is shaded/mulched heavily. I've also read that it can spread by root suckers and can become a nuisance. Has anybody had any experience with them in the dry central valley? I would guess that growing it in a dry climate such as the central valley would keep it shorter than it would typically be able to grow in its native habitat. Are the roots any more invasive than a black locust? I have one of those and it does get annoying to have to pull suckers up every spring.

Any input is welcome and appreciated!

Thanks

-Josh
