Wild Ginger

I'm in zone 8b/9a on the central coast. I would like to try some wild ginger as a ground cover under my live oak trees but are hesitant as I'm not sure they will make it here in our dry climate. Anyone growing wild ginger? Do you know what variety would do best?

Would not recommend any kind of Ginger under live oak trees. For a ground cover that might do that needs excellent drainage as does the oak try Salvia spathacea.
It can be a natural companion to native stands of live oaks.
