Mango Pruning

Is it a good time to tip prune my mango tree here in california? I got it from florida about a month ago. There are some long branches that im thinking of tipping. Also where should i place the tip. I heard that im suppose to put it right above a leaf node.

I'd try the tropical fruit forum--there seems to be quite a lot of mango talk over there.
