Color with succulents in the San Francisco Bay Area

I think I've posted a photo or two of this front garden before, but thought I would update it to show how the addition of just two more plant varieties has dramatically changed the look of the entire garden. The additional nearly year round blooming is just a bonus; the intent was really to soften the blank stucco walls per the owner's preferences. Both my clients and the neighbors have been bowled over by the exuberance of the additional Thunbergera alata vine and a couple of Lotus berthelotii which I added. The show has been ongoing like from last October all the way to this October, non-stop.

Absolutely beautiful, David! Is that a bottlebrush blooming red in the background??

Kay, similar deep red bottlebrush-like flower, but on a much different plant. I've posted about this small tree in the past, it is the virtually everblooming Metrosideros collina 'Springfire' Native to the South Pacific islands but does quite well here in coastal northern California above 27~28Ã¯Â¿Â½F in winter.

Thanks, David. I'm inland, but I've just added your metrosideros collina Springfire to my "must have" list. It will be perfect for screening my neighbor's magnificently ugly house.

I love my 'Springfire's, looking forward to them getting as big as the one in your photos.

The plantings look so fabulous, the house needs something to match it. The house needs some wider trim around the windows, or something, some architectural detail up higher, around the windows, just up somewheres. The gorgeous garden is outshining the house something terrible.
