That tropical look

My own garden has evolved to accommodate my ever-growing collection of "must-have" plants, and as a laboratory to test what will actually grow well in my microclimate. There are lots of subtropical plants here, mostly from the America's with many species from high elevation tropical cloud forests. This is the view I get walking into my kitchen every morning as I look out the door at the deck. It is a bit of a jungle, with lots of green tones and contrasting foliage textures. Blooming things as well, but more as grace notes than walls of color.

Absolutely beautiful! I am in the process of transitioning my backyard to tropical so this gives me lots of inspiration. Someday I may be able to show pics of my yard :-)

Lovely! That photo is so very enticing, David. I'm just dying to follow that path around the bend, into the rest of the beautiful "jungle."

Amazing collection and amazing garden! I wanted to know how you managed to get so many broms to bloom....of course, aside from help from the climate. I've never been able to get my broms to bloom inspite of them getting tons of sunlight! I often wonder, is chemical fertilizer absolutely necessary? I like to believe that my garden conditions are very similar to natural forest with plenty of organic matter around them...but they do not bloom!

Your garden is an intense experience, I can see that. My kind of garden! I greatly enjoy these small-scale, very personal gardens you create. This type of garden may not be for everyone, but perhaps that is exactly the point.
