I do not know your soil, but for my clay/loam soil, after initial soaking i do not need to water again for at least a week. When I do water a newly planted shrub or tree, I water directly on the root ball for the first few months if planted in the summer, which I try to avoid, to be sure the roots are into the native soil, before applying water beyond the root ball. water until the root mass planted is damp ...

and then dont water again.. until it NEAR dries ...

as noted.. only you can define such.. in your soil.. in your microclimate ... etc ...

and if you dont water again.. until the plant barely wilts.. you will have a good idea.. of how long it takes your soil to dry significantly ...

you might be very surprised.. how little water they need.. if you start with that first drenching...

especially in winter... as there simply arent the hot days to pull moisture from the soil... unless you just happen to be in one of those out of the ordinary God forsaken places ... then water a LITTLE more often .. lol
