Gardening Calendar

I'm looking for a calendar that will remind me when to feed my various plants - peach tree, rhodies, bulbs, lawn, etc., as well as when to plant things - hollyhock, salvia, poppies, and whether to start them in or out.

I'm good on veggies, but the other things I need a hand on.

Thanks.

RE: Gardening Calendar

I try to time my fertilizing with the holidays. Like Valentines Day, St. Patricks Day, Easter, 4th of July and so on. They tend to fall every 4-6 weeks in spring and fall. I don't usually fertilize in the summer.

As for starting seeds, I pretty much try to do all of mine in fall so I can get the plants in the ground by Christmas so they can get their roots well into the ground during the rains. I do sow seeds in place in early spring for some annuals. I also start all seeds outside, in pots, as in the past I have tried indoors only to have very leggy seedlings that didn't do very well.

Thanks, it will be my first year with perennials.

We had quite a nice rain fall a few weeks ago and my naturalized plants are all sprouting, especially the cornflower and sweet peas.

Pat Welsh has a great feature in her Southern California book: at the end of each month there is a checklist for what to plant, what to water, what to fertilize, and so on. I highly recommend the book.

Check with the UCCE at 565 2608 and see if they have a calendar they can mail you. If not any Sonoma county library has a California Master Gardener Handbook which will have the information, just will take a little longer to put it together. Harmony Farms in Graton may also have a local calendar. Al

I thought I answered this, but I guess my mind is playing tricks on me!

Thanks for your answers - I will research the sources. I might drive up to Graton today and see what they have.

Thanks again.

EUREKA!

Thank you Al. Harmony in Sebastopol had exactly what I was looking for. Very detailed. :)
