What size of redwood bark mulch will prevent weeds best:
1/4" to 3/8"
1/2" to 1"
3/4" to 1 1/2"
1 1/2" to 2"

How many cubic yards should I buy to cover a 600 sq ft garden with 3 to 4 inches of mulch?

5.5 Cubic Yards to cover 3" deep. That is 150 Cubic Feet.
7.5 Cubic Yards to cover 4" deep. That is 200 Cubic Feet.

That is just math and does not consider less mulch right around plant trunks or settling or ??

It's not the size of the bark so much as how thickly you apply it, and that you renew it when it starts thinning. 3-4" is good. Larger pieces typically last longer than smaller ones.
