Prune prunus?

We have a rather severe deer problem here, so when I planted my prunus serrula I protected it with one of those plastic tubes.

That worked--now it's too tall for the deer to destroy. Yay!

On the other hand, living in a tube for years has made it a little oddly shaped. I thought maybe this problem would self-correct, but it's been a year or so since I took the tube off and a lot of the branches are basically growing vertically.

Any suggestions for corrective pruning? I figure since winter is coming now's the time.
