This is a selected cultivar of a perennial plant. Seeds will not likely resemble the parent. Oriental poppies are propagated thru root cuttings. The cheapest way to get a large quantity would be to grow one up to a good size, then make root cuttings yourself. BTW, if you are in a warm winter area,oriental poppies don't usually do well. You might want to try one of the cultivars of Papaver somniferum, like Lauren's Grape. Since it is an annual, the seed will come true to color.

thank you so much for responding -- i didn't realize that o. poppies didn't come true from seed!

Although I live in northern california (santa cruz county), i live in an area that gets snow and frost from December through Feb. so (luckily for me) growning o. poppies hasn't been a problem.

that said, your alternative of growing laurens grape is an awesome one! the color is perfect and will go well with my color scheme -- plus it's easily found in my area. So i can buy lots of them this year instead of waiting for root cuttings to mature :)
