Pruning Avocado Tree for shape/balance?

Hi everyone, just a quick question:

So my young avocado tree has been growing pretty nicely the past two years but now one branch has been growing much faster/thicker on one side, causing my tree to be unbalanced. Now I have it staked so it can stay upright without leaning over too much. My question is how much of that branch can I prune/trim off and when can I do it? I've read early spring, late winter is the appropriate time. Im located in the San Fernando Valley by the way.

No answer?!?

I would just say you don't want new growth getting hit by a frost, but so far it doesn't look like we are going to get hit by a particularly frosty winter. A little prune isn't going to hurt, maybe back to where the first branch from the end occurs. The plant is very young, so not too much. The professionals prune right after picking the crop but before the new growth and flowers appear in spring, so sooner rather than later.
