Avocado, b type, Knowles? Americana?

Posted by NorCalNiko 9b N.CA (My Page) on

I'm looking for a medium sized, good tasting avocado for zone 9b. I hear Knowles (Nowles?) is a good fit (possibly Persea Americana), but I'm having a hell of a time finding any info or sources for it. I understand Fuerte is the standard B type, but it looks as if it's a pretty large tree...

So, I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for an easier-to-find type B, or a good source for the Knowles variety.

Really appreciate any help you can provide!

Hi, I can't help much with sources but these links provide more info on other "B"'s... I've seen Fuerte, Bacon, Stewart and Zutano at Lowe's. They should get more in the next couple of months... ask them when they expect them. (Stewart can also be an "A" type in some areas but it's said to be a "B" around Irvine.)

Thanks a ton, MB. I'll check out those sources.

This is my faorite avocado site, but it's not listed there. Maybe you can check it out for ideas, though??
