You are right - if we don't get heavy winter rains, you have to make up for it. You have to feel the soil to judge if the tree needs watering. Once a week might be too often if the soil is still quite wet a few inches down. It usually doesn't rain here every single week, so see if once every two weeks is better than every week. ALthough we had heavy rains last December, our normal rainy months are January and February. So there's still time.

We have had .12 of an inch of rain in the month of December, plus I have never seen as much drying north winds in the same period. Any plants not well established in the ground will need to be watered to prevent dessication and the very real possibility of frost damage, on plants not normally sensitive to frost. Al
