| How do you grow camellia hybrids? I live in sunny weather so I prefer to grow sasanqua's. Will hybrids tolerate sun like the sasanqua's? Thanks. |

Depends on whether the parent tolerates sun like sasanquas and on whether the hybrid got that characteristic from the parent. Hybrids developed by others and sold by nurseries should indicate the light requirements. If this is your own hybrid then you need to run a test during the summer. Expose the plant to as much sun as another sasanqua; if you notice that the hybrid's leaves are suffering then protect it because the hybrid did not get that characteristic from the parent. In other words, you will have to grow such a hybrid under afternoon shade. Here in Texas, that is a moot point. I have to protect all camellias varieties and hybrids. Too hot in the summer. |
