My grandfather had a camellia he called the Madonna camellia. I have the opportunity to dig a couple of volunteers and want to know for certain the name. Is there a white camellia named Madonna? It looks like a white granda flora.

Yes there is an old variety of camellia japonica named 'Madonna' that is listed in the Camellia Nomenclature Historical Supplement for varieties no longer in substantial commercial distribution. These old ones are now rare, and well worth saving! Here is the description: Madonna -- Delicate Roseate White striped bright Pink. Medium size bloom, formal double form. (Italy 1846).

Thanks for the info! This camellia is all white, however. I have potted two volunteers, and am going to train them as standards.
