Camellia japonica 'Landauer'

Posted by nishamhran z8OR (My Page) on

My local HD has 1 gallon Camellia japonica 'Landauer' on special for $6. Can't seem to find any information on this particular variety online; maybe 'Landauer' is mispelled. The only info on the label is the name and "red flower".

Any thoughts, ideas?

Hmmmmm, doesn't seem to be listed in any of the Camellia Nomenclature books. Some varieties are named but never officially registered. Why not ask the name of the Home Depot supplier and work backward. Or check with someone in the local camellia club there in Portland to see if they know it -- e-mail me if you need a contact.

I just saw some folks from Portland. They said Landauer is the name of a camellia nurseryman in that area. Maybe that is a lead.

I saw one in bloom at a local nursery (not a Home Depot), and it was a semi-double medium red. Fairly nice, though I wasn't moved enough to buy one.
