Camellia Scentsation tag says plant in Sun?

Camellia Scentsation tag says plant in Sun? Is that possible that I should need to plant it out in the Sun? I have it planted next to the patio. It is getting quite a bit of Sun because it is a standard and is very tall (not being shaded by the fence). Also some buds are opening and some are falling off. The leaves seem kind of limp. I'm hoping it will do better after the root system gets larger.
Does anyone think It should be out in the sun or have one planted out in the sun? Thanks for you help. Dave

Mine is planted in the sun, but it is a Pacific Northwest sun, which is not as strong as the California sun. I have found that those buds which are shaded tend to have less (or no) fragrance but are doing fine otherwise. Dropping buds may indicate a lack of water (or perhaps water that's too alkaline).

In your area the best exposure for any camellia is morning sun and afternoon shade. Filtered sunlight either by trees or shade cloth are also excellent exposures. Direct afternoon sunlight in the summer months is a bit too much in your area. Limp or sagging leaves indicate a need for water.
