growing camellias

I plan to purchase a camellia plant at some time in the future. I am hesitant because I live in the South Jersey area where we have hot summers. I plan to plant the camellia in the center of the front yard alone and wonder if the lack of shade would damage the plant.

RE: growing camellias

Try to get them into a more shady location if possible. Remember, winter sun can do even more damage to evergreens than summer sun. If winter soils are frozen and the sun strong, the leaves will scald and brown!! Mine are protected by both a high western fence (all year) and a dogwood and a row of banana trees in the growing season.
