Wintert morning shade for my camellia?

User

Here in zone 6, I just bought camellia "Aida" which Rare Find Nursery lists as hardy to my zone. However, I know that even hardy camellias are a little iffy here. I have been reading up on it, and the suggestions seem to be to sure they have morning shade in the winter (that if they get morning sun it can kind of "Freeze-dry" frozen leaves.) My questions then are:

1. How late does the shade have to last? Would it be ok if it became sunny by, say, 10 am?

2. Is this more or less important than exposure? From what I read its best to plant in a north west exposure with protection from winds.

Any other advice for growing camellias in cold areas much appreciated!

Thanks!
