Camellia needs TLC!

Hi,

we moved into this house in May 2011 and have since been cleaning up a very neglected yard! The camellia is mature and large! Because of a dead tree behind it only one side was receiving sun. The whole bush is full on one side and bare on the back side and the whole thing has a lean to it to one side. We cut down the dead tree and now I want to prune this baby into a tree form. Will this help the bad side rejuvenate? can I do it all at once or only a little each year?

I hate to be a misery but Camellia does not grow back easily once it is damaged. I wouldn't advise pruning it either - same reason. Why don't you buy a second plant for the bare side? You could get two contrasting colors.
