Judy--I wouldn't worry too much about the sheen on those leaves. Wait until it grows out its new leaves--I can see the buds in your pic--and those old ones may very well be shed during the process. Also, camellia foliage varies from one variety to the next--some are naturally shinier, or darker green than others. The leaves on Nuccio's Gem come out just about the color of your leaves and aren't shiny here in the DC area grown in clay, whereas Jury's Yellow is always shiny and dark for us.

Keep an eye on insects throughout the growing season (ck weekly or ebery two weeks?), especially on the underside of the leaves, and resist the urge to water when more water is not needed.
