When to prune for espaliering?

I just bought a Mahothiana supreme in full bloom. Can't wait to plant her next weekend... What is the best time to shape and prune a Japonica for esplaier?

Thanks,
Marlene

Do the pruning right after she blooms, and as the new shoots get long enough, tie them to your support so they harden up in the position you want them.
