"White by the gate" sounds like a transliteration of a Japanese cultivar name. Do you know what that might be?

'Setsugekka' is a standard variety at outlets here. The large flowers appear extra fragile and flimsy to me. I like the look of 'Fukuzutsumi' (sold here as 'Apple Blossom') better - but have not tried it as I have not seen any stock that was not virused (yellow marbled) and/or horribly rootbound (nearly all camellias at garden centers here come from one or two large wholesale growers in California who apparently do not make any attempt to keep camellias potted on in a timely manner; unbelievable tight fists, turnips or squares of knotted roots are often even visible on top of the potting medium).

I think it would be imprudent to plant a 'White by the Gate' camellia in a Zone 6b climate unless you plan to grow it under glass. Outdoors, its flowers are bound to be ruined by the cold. If you don't normally have a killing frost before mid-October, you should get some blooms from 'Setsugekka' if that sasanqua can endure 6b weather. You'd be better off to go with some of the recent cold-hardy Ackerman and Parks camellias in Zone 6b.

my 'white-by-the-gate' starts to blooms early, around late december, and many of the flowers are spoiled by the cold weather even this far south. i agree with jay and don't think that one is a good choice for you.
