Seedling of Super Serrated Petals

This is an old seedling of mine from chance seedling of 'Clark Hubbs'. The flower shape is OK, medium in size. But the flower is not always as neat as I want to. The petals is unusual, the most serrated petals than all other camellias. I am still working on this project, hoping to have a better one later.

What do you think this flower?

Very unique and interesting, John, and very outstanding in color. I would think almost anyone would want such a beautiful and unique bloom. (And your photography is excellent!) Is this typical of the bloom? How well does it grow? And what is its habit, how would it look in the garden? Forrest

forrestal: May be it is not fair to judge the seedling. because I am not a show flower grower. I do think the flower can be ' very impressive', if someone who has been the camellia show top winner for years to handle it. I am going to re-pot the plant and put some effort for cultivation.

Wonderful! One certainly doesn't see blooms like that in many winter gardens, and I do think it is well worth growing out to see what its garden value will be. Let us know! By the way, my grafts of Ken's Smile from last year are doing magnificently -- a fine grower. Expecting first blooms next year. Have you determined whether it is the same as the plant labeled Hallstone Spicy in the ACS garden at Massee Lane?? A fun mystery! F

No. It is a different one, a medium plus size, full peony, in fresh pink. This one was selected from from a small one gal Ken's camellia plant. The fragrance note is obvious like fresh meadow in Spring.
