New shoots mature earlier in hot climate ?

I have two camellias which I bought especially for coducting my first attempts of propagating by cuttings. Technical literature recommends the cutting to be taken sometime in July, when the new shoots have turned brown, into semi-ripe shoots, to my understanding.

However, it is around mid-May, that all the new shoots have turned into brown. OK... Am I too late ? Shall I wait till July, or can I take the cuttings right now ?

Sure. They should be taken soon after the tender growth matures and hardens. That can be anywhere from May through August, depending on where in the country you are. Luis
