 o
identify this camellia relative?

Can anyone name this plant? Every summer I enjoy seeing it (it's growing next to Tony Avent's driveway at Plant Delights Nursery in NC), am confounded by trying to identify it (not everything there is labeled), and forget to ask anybody what it is. My best guess so far is that it's a Schima (wallachii perhaps?), a member of the camellia (tea) family allied to the Gordonias, Franklinias, and Stewartias. Anybody know if that's correct, or of a possible source? PDN has never listed it for sale, and neither does anybody else, from what I can tell (which makes me want one even more...go figure).

I went to the source - according to PDN, it's Schima argentea, in case anybody's wondering!

Bubba,

Please do not be discouraged by the lukewarm reaction here. The natural beauty of Camellias far exceeds Schimas. Those people love Camellia usually are not interested in Schimas.

However, Schimas have their merits. I have a post in the tree forum: http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/trees/msg061415559081.html?23
