What is this growth?

I planted my first camellias this year, and put in 4 cold hardy varieties that I hope will survive my Virginia winters. All are doing well, and growing nicely. But I recently noticed a funny growth on my Autumn Spirit plant. Does anyone know what this is? It doesn't look anything like any of my other buds.

Thanks,
Ed

appears to be a seedpod to me. wait until it begins to open to harvest it and plant the seeds inside immediately.
you won't get the same plant cultivar but could be something nice.

Thanks, Jeff.

I'll plant the seeds and see what I get!

The capsule will begin to crack open, probably in the fall sometime. That's when the seeds inside will be ready to plant.

Sure looks like a seedpod to me! One of my camellias consistently produces seeds, but I have yet to successfully germinate one.
