mold or fungus growing on root system of camellia tree

Today my husband and I noticed yellow and orange fungus or mold growing within the mulch and the rooting system around my Camellia Tree. We also have colius which grows out of control and they become taller than our Camellia Tree. The colius are around Camellia tree. Our Camellia is located within our flower bed, not by itself. Can you please tell us tell us what may be the problem that we are having and how to treat it before our Camellia dies?

p.s. sorry we do not have any pictures to show you.

If you are using a wood particle mulch, the mold is probably growing on that and not on your Camellia. You could lift the mody mulch out wth a shovel, or give it a good spray with Lysol!

Coleus? Is that what you are talking about?

There are many different kinds of fungi that grow on the mulch that we use in our landscaping beds. Without a better description, we cannot help you identify what this might be. However, I will tell you that fungi growing on the mulch is one hundred percent not harmful to your camellia. (I sure would get rid of that coleus!)

I would not spray with Lysol or anything else. Unless you can do a better job at describing this stuff, we can only assume that you have what jillions of others have complained about: a decomposing fungus of some kind, or a slime mold....both of which are totally harmless to your camellias.
