i have a gift certificate at a local nursery and want to get another fall-blooming camellia.
currently, this is the only one they have in stock.
i like the pictures i have seen on the web but they don't mention the size of the flowers. are they small like other sasanquas?
is it fragrant like they say?
i may wait a month or so before buying to see what else might be available, but i would appreciate any comments of those who grow this one.

'Kanjiro' would be a great choice, beautiful pink-red bloom that is so pretty in its simplicity that I have seen it used as the subject of greeting cards. Very much preferred by hybridizers because it has everything ... excellent bloom, beautiful foliage, handsome habit, vigorous growth, very floriferous and fragrant! I wish for more myself. You don't find them in retail nurseries very often, and am glad to see someone has them.

Home Depot carried Kanjiro last year. I bought a 1 gallon for under seven dollars. I also saw it several other places. It is worth having of course. But I would wait til they get more in and maybe get something more difficult to find, albeit camellias or other plants.

I have Kanjiro that I got from Home Depot like Bumblebeez. Mine was also a one gallon that I planted on December 22, 2001. It was 2'6" then and is 7'6" now. I have it located in sun most of the day with little to no supplemental water. The flowers are pretty big and just gorgeous. I have never checked for fragrance, but will now! Couldn't go wrong in my opinion.
