What's wrong with my camellia?

About 25% of my camellias have leaves where the center stem of the leaf is brown. It looks like dirt but isn't. On some of the plants the brown spreads to cover about half of the leaf. To be clear, the brown goes right down the middle of the leaf. Does anyone know what causes this?
