Bad Placement?

Hi there, wondering if you guys could clarify something for me.

I currently have two cold hardy camellias planted close to our garage, one fall blooming Frost Princess and a spring blooming April Tryst. The garage is old and seperate from the house and is brick. I planted them there since they would be sheilded from any northern winds and afternoon sun, since it's a southeast exposure, however now I'm reading that morning sun is bad for camellias? Is that true?

It's not like it gets a ton of sun in that spot, it's quite shady due to a type of spreading pine tree that also grows along side it and because of our large weeping cherry tree.

Should I move them? I planted Frost Princess last year and it survived our winter and now has small buds that I guess will be opening within a month or so, and I bought April Tryst this year in bloom and it seems to have adjusted just fine..I think also has buds.

Should I move them or am I just blowing something out of proportion, I haven't grown camellias before last year.

Thanks!

Max

No, I think you are confusing discussions about morning sun with those dealing with plant location or exposure. To quote the A.C.S. recommendations: "Plants located in full sun often are less dormant during warm periods of the winter and may suffer damage if cold weather follows. Plants in a northern or western exposure of a building or fence or otherwise protected from intense morning sun will usually stand more cold weather than those in an eastern or southern exposure."

Thanks for answering! That was the core of my question, since are planted facing the south-east and the area gets a bit of morning sun when the sun rises, thus raised my concern about the damage...
