_Camellia japonica_ 'September Morn'

This is one of my favorite camellias because of its attractive, peony to anemone-form flowers and its excellent habit of producing early blossoms in the garden landscape. We have two specimens, both growing in ordinary South Carolina red clay soil, with a constant feed of slash pine needles. They've been in our garden since around 1990 and, to my knowledge, have never been chemically fertilized. True to its name, our 'September Morn' has opened blossoms before the end of September, with daytime temperatures in the nineties and drought conditions in our part of South Carolina. The blossoms are a creamy white with pale yellow center petaloids. 'September Morn' is a heritage variety and is not easy to find in the nursery trade; however, it is an excellent cultivar if you are looking for a japonica that blooms early. I highly recommend 'September Morn,' which is also known as 'Yohei Haku' or 'Albatross.'
